Multi-Currency Pricing for CPQ

The Munich plant wants EUR. The quote still totals in USD. Show local currency on the PDF and keep margin review in your base currency.

The challenge

The buyer wants EUR. The quote still totals in USD.

A instrumentation distributor quotes a pressure-transmitter skid for a plant near Munich. Inside sales prices in USD from the master list and adds a manual EUR column in Excel before sending the PDF. Procurement asks for the official EUR total and the FX rate used. Finance cannot reconcile margin because the spreadsheet rate differs from ERP.

Dealers in Poland and Sweden re-quote in local currency from memory. When headquarters updates the monthly FX table, regional quotes drift from the published list. Reorders arrive with three different currency assumptions on the same customer account.

Customer-specific pricing applies account lists. Contract pricing honours framework schedules. Volume pricing steps qty breaks. Multi-currency pricing is different: the quote must present totals in the buyer's currency while pricing ops and finance review margin against a consistent base currency and FX source.

Inquiry to config to price to approval to order should not depend on a rep's spreadsheet conversion the night before the customer meeting.

How it works

How Mercura prices quotes in multiple currencies

Pricing ops define base currency, supported quote currencies, and FX sources in Mercura, typically synced from ERP on a schedule you control. When a rep or dealer selects currency on the quote, line prices convert using the published rate and date. Margin checks can run in base currency while the PDF shows EUR, SEK, or PLN to the buyer. Dynamic roll-up, account lists, volume tiers, and contract schedules still apply before conversion. FX tables need an owner when rates refresh.

What's included

What multi-currency pricing covers

  • Quote currency selectable per customer, region, or dealer
  • Line and total prices in buyer currency on the quote
  • FX rate and effective date visible before approval
  • Base-currency margin review for pricing ops and finance
  • Same currency logic for inside sales, dealers, and portals
  • Works with dynamic pricing, account lists, volume, and contracts
  • Updates when ERP FX tables are republished to Mercura
  • Traceability of which rate drove the converted total

The difference

Multi-currency quotes before and after CPQ

Base currency plus spreadsheet FX
  • Reps quote in HQ currency and convert in Excel
  • Dealers apply local FX from outdated email tables
  • PDF shows one currency while finance reviews another
  • Reorder quotes use a different rate than the last deal
  • Margin reconciliation waits until after the customer accepts
With Mercura
  • Selecting quote currency applies the published FX rate
  • Buyer sees totals in EUR, SEK, or PLN on the PDF
  • Finance reviews margin in base currency on the same quote
  • Dealers and reps share the same rate table
  • Reorder quotes use the current published rate unless locked

Real-world application

Example workflow: measurement instruments across regions

A manufacturer of pressure and flow instruments sells through regional distributors in DACH, Nordics, and Central Europe. Reps used to send USD quotes with manual EUR footnotes. After connecting ERP FX to Mercura and enabling quote currency per account, Munich quotes total in EUR, Stockholm in SEK, and Warsaw in PLN, each with the rate and date on the PDF, while HQ margin review stays in USD on the same configuration.

Business impact

Why multi-currency pricing is FX discipline, not a bigger discount

Multi-currency pricing is how CPQ presents international quotes without shadow spreadsheets. It complements customer-specific lists, contract schedules, volume tiers, dynamic roll-up, and discount approval. Mercura does not replace your ERP as system of record for FX or statutory accounting currency. Someone must publish rate updates when treasury refreshes tables. If disputes start with "which rate did you use", tying quote currency to a published FX source in CPQ aligns inquiry, configuration, price, approval, and order with what finance expects.
