Dynamic Pricing
Static list prices break the moment someone adds an option. Let the quote total follow the full configuration before approval.
On change
Price updates when options or modules change
Full build
Total reflects the configured scope, not a base SKU
Before approval
Sales sees the rolled-up price before the PDF
The challenge
The configuration grew. The price on the quote did not.
The rep selects housing, media grade, manifold, and control panel. The PDF still shows last month's list price for the base skid. Finance finds the gap after the customer signed.
Dealers download a price sheet and mentally add surcharges for every option. Inside sales keeps a parallel spreadsheet that new hires never inherit correctly.
Rule-based pricing applies IF/THEN surcharges. Volume tiers depend on quantity. Customer-specific lists pick the account rate. Dynamic pricing is different: the total recalculates as the configuration itself changes, option by option.
Inquiry to config to price to approval to order should carry a price that matches what was configured, not what was convenient to look up.
How it works
How Mercura keeps price aligned with the configuration
Mercura ties pricing formulas to configuration state: each selected option, module, or attribute can adjust list price, cost, or margin on the quote. As the rep or dealer builds the configuration, the price rolls up and visible margin updates with it. Other pricing layers still apply: rules, volume, discounts, and account lists. This page is how the quote total stays aligned with the build before it leaves sales. Pricing models need an owner when products or rate cards change.
What's included
What dynamic pricing covers
- Configuration-driven price roll-up as options change
- Option-level and module-level price adjustments
- Visible totals and margin before quote approval
- Same dynamic pricing for inside sales, dealers, and portals
- Works alongside rule-based surcharges and volume tiers
- Multi-currency price calculation where configured
- Price traceability on the quote line structure
- Published rate updates when product pricing changes
The difference
Pricing configurable products before and after dynamic CPQ
- Reps quote the base SKU and adjust price later in Excel
- Option surcharges stay in tribal knowledge, not the configurator
- Dealers and inside sales use different price add-ons
- Signed PDFs disagree with what was actually configured
- Finance reconciles quotes after the deal is won
- Quote total updates as each option is selected
- Configured scope and price stay on one document
- Dealers and reps share the same pricing engine
- Margin visible before approval and signature
- Rate updates publish when product pricing changes
Real-world application
Example workflow: industrial filtration skid pricing
A filtration OEM sells skids with housings, media grades, circulation modules, and control panels. Reps used to quote the base skid from a list and add surcharges in Excel after the customer asked for options. After linking price formulas to configuration in Mercura, each selection updates the quote total, margin is visible before approval, and finance stops reconciling signed PDFs against spreadsheets.
Business impact
Why dynamic pricing is configuration math, not a rate card lookup
Dynamic pricing is how CPQ keeps the quote total honest as the build changes. It complements rule-based surcharges, volume tiers, account lists, and discount governance. Mercura does not replace your ERP as system of record for cost or invent pricing strategy owned by finance. Someone must maintain formulas when products change. If your team still prices the base SKU and fixes the total later, configuration-driven pricing aligns inquiry, configuration, price, approval, and order with what was actually sold.
